10 mm
The 10 mm disc is the value option for single crowns and short bridges, and it yields well when your case mix runs mostly posterior.
ST Pre-shaded Zirconia is optimum for full contour crowns and bridges.

ST Pre-Shaded Zirconia is Upcera’s 3Y-TZP disc, shaded uniformly from end to end. No gradient, no layering, one shade through the whole blank.
Flexural strength is 1300 MPa; the highest figure Upcera publishes. Translucency is 43%, the lowest. Those two numbers travel together in zirconia, and on this disc the trade lands firmly on the side of strength.
The shade list tells you what this material is really for. Alongside the 16 VITA classical shades sit OM1, OM2 and OM3. Those are masking shades, and they exist because 3Y-TZP blocks light. A dark prep, a metal post, a discolored stump or a titanium abutment stops showing through.
Every lab has cases that are structurally awkward and visually compromised. This is the disc for those.
1300 MPa flexural strength, the strongest in the Upcera range
43% translucency, which is opacity you can use
OM1 to OM3 masking shades for dark preps and metal substructures
Uniform shade, so nesting orientation does not matter
Dense 3Y microstructure that mills clean and holds a margin
Uniform shading also means free nesting. Rotate units, tilt them, pack them edge to edge, and the color does not change. Layered discs cost you blank every time you orient to a gradient. This one does not.

These pre-shaded zirconia discs run in open-architecture CAD/CAM systems and handle conventional and speed sintering programs. 3Y fires hotter than the 4Y and 5Y discs in the Upcera range, so check your furnace profile rather than reusing a cycle from a TT tray.
Labs use ST pre-shaded zirconia for crowns in the posterior and for any case where the underlying tooth is working against the shade.
Anterior and posterior bridges
Restorations over dark preps, posts and metal cores
Implant-supported crowns on titanium abutments
Bruxism cases needing maximum fracture resistance
High-volume production where cost per unit matters
For anterior cases that need light to pass through the restoration, this is the wrong disc. Upcera Explore Esthetic reaches 48.8% translucency, and TT Multilayer reaches 49%. Both give up strength to get there.

The name describes the generation of the material, not its position in the current range. ST was Upcera’s translucent 3Y line when it launched. Measured against today’s 4Y and 5Y discs, it is the opaque end, and that is exactly why labs keep it in stock.
When something underneath the crown needs hiding. OM1 to OM3 are masking shades for discolored preps, metal posts, amalgam cores and titanium abutments. A standard VITA shade on a translucent disc will let that darkness read through.
No. The shade is identical everywhere in the blank, so you can orient units however the software packs them best. That usually means more crowns per disc than a layered material gives you.
For posterior spans, bruxers and anything with a questionable connector, yes. For a straightforward anterior single, the extra strength does nothing visible, and you lose translucency. Match the disc to the failure mode you are worried about.
For posterior work, usually not. The base shade is accurate, and most labs glaze and ship. Anterior units benefit from light characterization, since 43% translucency does not create depth on its own.
