12 mm
The 12 mm disc covers single crowns, veneers and short anterior bridges, and it nests the most units per blank.
Upcera’s Explore Esthetic line is a 4Y-5Y multilayered, pre-shaded dental zirconia block that combines a seamless gradient of translucency, strength, chroma, and toughness. Moreover, an industry-first – Explore Esthetic is perfectly color matched to Explore Functional, removing the mismatched coloring that happens so frequently.

Explore Esthetics is Upcera’s multilayered, pre-shaded 4Y–5Y disc, designed for the cases dentists see every day. Its 5Y incisal layer allows light to pass through, while the 4Y layer beneath adds strength. Between the two, a gradual transition in chroma, translucency, and toughness brings it all together in a single blank.
Translucency runs up to 48.8% at the incisal edge, easing to 47% lower down. Flexural strength sits between 727 and 1000 MPa, climbing as you move toward the base.
It is color-matched to Explore Functional, which is the part most labs care about. Mill an anterior from Esthetics and a posterior from Functional, and the shades line up across the arch.
Anterior remakes are rarely about fit. Units come back because the shade reads flat, or the incisal looks dead.
48.8% translucency at the incisal for enamel-like light transmission
727 to 1000 MPa flexural strength through the gradient
Fine-grain microstructure that polishes to a natural surface
Pre-shaded in 16 VITA classical shades plus BL1 to BL4
Stable shade after sintering, with no blotching from uneven dipping
Because the shade is milled in rather than dipped, the depth sits inside the restoration instead of on top of it. That gives you something to build on at the staining stage instead of something to cover up.

These explore esthetic zirconia discs are compatible with open-architecture CAD/CAM systems and follow standard Upcera sintering protocols. Use the published cycle for your shade and thickness. Overfiring can change the shade and translucency; the qualities you chose the disc for.
Labs use Explore Esthetics zirconia for bridges in the smile zone; single anterior crowns and veneer work where translucency decides whether the case passes.
Anterior crowns and veneers
Two- and three-unit anterior bridges
Implant-supported anterior crowns
Cosmetic inlays and onlays
Full smile design cases
Keep it in the anterior. Posterior load, long spans and full-arch hybrids belong on Upcera Explore Functional at 1027 to 1300 MPa. The two share a shade system, so moving between them costs you nothing in color.

Not as a first choice. At 727 to 1000 MPa it handles anterior load comfortably, but posterior units and long spans belong on Explore Functional at 1027 to 1300 MPa. Putting it in the posterior trades strength you need for translucency nobody sees back there.
Optically, they sit close. Mechanically they do not. Explore Esthetics starts at 727 MPa, against roughly 400 to 500 MPa for lithium disilicate depending on the system, so you get similar depth with more room on thin preparations.
Yes. The translucent 5Y layer has to sit at the incisal. Nested upside down, the denser layer lands at the edge, and the unit comes out of the furnace looking lifeless.
Yes, veneers are where they earn their price. The incisal translucency gives depth without layering, and the fine grain polishes cleanly on thin sections.
Translucency against strength. Esthetics is 4Y-5Y, up to 48.8% translucency, 727 to 1000 MPa. Functional is 3Y-4Y, 43% to 46.6% translucency, 1027 to 1300 MPa. Both are color-matched, so you can run anterior from one and posteriors from the other in the same arch.
